3D Animation
Pre-Production
Types of Production:
There are lots of different types of animation such as Claymation, Puppets, Silhouette, cut-out and Stop Motion and Time Lapse. For my animation I will be using both Stop Motion and Time Lapse.
Implications:
Implication you may face are running out of time or running out of props and equipment during the filming. For my animation some of the problem I could face are running out or not having enough Lego to complete my scene and not having all the right equipment when filming. Also having the memory card you use fill up and having to stop filming completely.
Resources and Equipment:
There are a lot of thing you could need to make an animations such as a camera, lights, tripod, props and a camera crew or helpers. For my animation I needed everything listed above apart from the crew.
Personnel and Crew:
For a big production there is many roles within the crew such as Cameraman, lighting man, props man a well as directors and secondary crew. For my animation I didn’t need a big crew, the personnel in my animation was myself.
Timescales:
Most animations could take days and weeks to film the whole animation fully, a lot of times retakes are required due to there being hands or thing in the way of the shot. For my animation I plan for it to take around 1 to 2 days to film and a few weeks to edit it all together.
Finance:
For my animation I did not need to buy anything, although in bigger productions they will need to buy their props and cameras and rent out locations.
Camera £400 (borrowed)
Tripod £35 (borrowed)
Lego Tub £50 (already owned)
Desk Lamp £5 (already owned)
Phone Light £390 (already owned)
Facilities:
For a bigger production many animators may need facilities such as a studio, if they were to be filming outside they would need facilities such as loos, caravans and eating areas. As I’m doing a small production inside my house I will not need any facilities as everything I need will already be there.
Materials:
The material I have chosen to use is Lego. Although in a bigger production with different animation styles other animation could need; Clay, Puppets, Paper, Foam, Cardboard.
Contributors and Cast:
The contributors in my animation will be me and the cast will all be moved and made by me. In a bigger production there could be a lot bigger cast and contributors such as, Clay Artist, Props Maker and the person who moves the stuff around to create the animation, normally the director.
Locations:
The location of my animation will be in my room, although the set up will show a plain white background and a table. Because my animation is small I don’t need much space for my animation, but other people may need a room inside a studio or a set up outside with props.
Copyright:
My animation will be free from copyright as I will be filming everything in my animation and will be using royalty free music in it. If bigger productions make an animation they need to make sure all of their music and footage is their own or royalty free as well as having consent from all the actors in the animation.
Health and Safety:
For health and safety in my animation I will make sure all cables and wires are tied up and the filming area is clutter free to make the filming smooth and to avoid injuries, as I am filming inside my house there will not be any issues with if the location is a safe place to film. Within a bigger production if filming in a place that is outside they will need to make sure the area is safe and okay to film in.
Legal and Ethical Constraints:
For my animation everything I did was within the Legal and Ethical constraints for a animation. For a proper production they need to make sure everything they put and all their content has been obtained legally, such as filming outside you would need to make sure the land you are filming on is either public land and anyone can film or have permission from the land owners to film there. Their ethical constraints could be something like Religion, if they are including any type of religion in their animation they need to make sure they do not offend or make fun of that religion.
